Chevrolet Z71 Package: Do You Need It on Your Truck?
All Chevrolet trucks offer an abundance of configurations and accessories so you can select the version that’s best suited for your needs. If you want superior off-road performance on your next truck, you need to upgrade to a Chevrolet with the Z71 package.
What is the Z71 package?
This bundle of off-road features is available on the Colorado, the Silverado 1500, and the Silverado HD at Hammer Chevrolet. It is an ideal choice for anyone who drives in rough, rural areas (like here in Sheridan, Wyoming), since it gives the truck better traction and control. The components of the Z71 version varies based on the model, so here’s a quick rundown of each.
2020 Chevrolet Colorado Z71
On the Colorado, the Z71 package comes as an individual trim level. It builds on the features of the LT trim and comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, Hill Descent Control, unique upholstery, and a rugged off-road suspension. It also comes with an EZ Lift & Lower tailgate to make it easier to load cargo.
The Colorado Z71 trim is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine rated at 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with four-wheel drive for superior traction.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71
For the Silverado 1500, the Z71 package is a standalone option. It is available to add to most trim levels and comes standard on the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss models.
This off-road package comes with a metal underbody shield, all-terrain tires, a high-capacity air filter, Hill Descent Control, an off-road suspension with Rancho® shocks, a two-speed transfer case, and an automatic locking rear differential.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD Z71
Just like the other Chevrolet trucks, the heavy-duty Silverado is also available with the Z71 Off-Road Package. This is a popular choice for Silverado HD truck owners and adds features like off-road tuned twin tube shocks, skid plates, and Hill Descent Control. This package is available on most Silverado HD configurations and can provide extra stability and protection when driving on rough roads.
If you plan on driving in the mud, gravel, or grass more often than on paved roads, you definitely need the Z71 configuration on your Chevy truck. It’s a must-have enhancement for conquering the tough terrain of Wyoming year-round.
